When a contractor is assigned to a construction project, Onsite automatically provides access to project information, compliance records, and safety activities relevant to the contractor and their workers.

Depending on their role and permissions, contractor administrators and supervisors can access:

• Project documents, including the project's WHS Management Plan
• Approved Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
• Site induction records
• Site attendance records
• Toolbox Talk records
• Non-Compliance Notices
• Defect Notices
• Worker induction status and compliance information

The information available to each contractor is limited to their own organisation, workers, and project-related records.

Project SWMS

SWMS are a key risk control measure for work on construction projects. They must be developed in consultation with workers and describe:

• The work activities being performed
• Hazards associated with those activities
• Risk control measures that must be implemented
• Site-specific requirements and restrictions
• Legal and safety obligations that must be followed before work commences

Builders request Project SWMS and use a SWMS approval process to verify that contractors have identified the risks associated with their work and established appropriate controls.

Workers are required to read and acknowledge the approved SWMS as part of the site induction process.

Single Residential Projects

For single residential construction projects, contractors generally provide a generic SWMS covering their standard trade activities.

After the SWMS has been submitted and approved by the builder, workers complete the required induction and can then access applicable single residential projects managed by that builder.

To submit a SWMS:

1. Open the Project SWMS request email.
2. Complete the SWMS checklist.
3. Upload the SWMS and supporting documents.
4. Submit the SWMS for review.

The contractor will receive an email notification when the SWMS has been reviewed and approved.

Multi-Residential and Commercial Projects

Multi-residential and commercial projects require a project-specific SWMS that reflects the agreed scope of work and project conditions.

Before workers can commence work on these projects:

1. The contractor must submit a project-specific SWMS.
2. The builder must approve the SWMS.
3. Workers must complete the project-specific induction.

The contractor will receive an email notification once the SWMS has been approved.

Site Inductions

All workers must complete the required induction before entering or working on a project.

During the induction process, workers are required to:

• Select the contractor they work for
• Review project-specific safety information
• Confirm that they have read and understood the approved SWMS
• Acknowledge relevant site rules and requirements

Workers who have not completed the required induction are not permitted to work on site.

SWMS Updates

If an approved SWMS is revised during a project, workers who previously acknowledged the document are automatically notified.

Workers may be required to review and acknowledge the updated SWMS before continuing work on the project.

Managing Workers and Inductions

Contractor administrators and supervisors can use Onsite to:

• View approved SWMS
• Add and manage workers
• Monitor induction status
• Request workers to complete inductions
• Track site attendance
• Review project-related safety records

Keeping worker records up to date and ensuring inductions are completed before workers arrive on site helps reduce delays and supports compliance with project safety requirements.
